I know you’re probably familiar with the traditional sangria, it’s light & fruity.
Well, I wanted to be able to serve a sangria that was appropriate for fall – something spiced & warming. This Autumn Sangria is just that. It’s full of luscious apples & cinnamon spices. It can be served iced or warm, warm is my personal favorite. This sangria is something that keeps very well, so it can be made ahead of time. This beverage would be perfect for an after Thanksgiving, dessert style cocktail.
You’ll notice the rim of the glass is garnished with a cinnamon sugar. This is of course optional, but really makes this drink special. I used 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tbl ground cinnamon & 1 tbl ground nutmeg. Mix these ingredients in a shallow bowl, dip glass rim in water and then in sugar mixture to obtain the garnished showed here.
Ingredients
- 1 Bottle red wine
- 2 Cups apple cider
- 2 chopped apples
- cinnamon sticks for garnishing
Instructions
- In a pitcher muddle chopped apples & apple cider
- Add wine
- Serve in glasses & garnish with cinnamon
- * to serve warm - heat wine on stove, being careful not to boil. Add wine to apple & cider mixture, then serve.
