You guys, I’m so excited to share this plate DIY with everyone. It has been swimming around in my head for months. I saw a tutorial a while ago that encouraged you to spray paint the edges of a bamboo plate and I loved the idea, but wasn’t so thrilled with the idea of my food being so close to something spray painted. So, I wanted to offer up an equally impressive diy that isn’t full of VOC’s. This plate DIY uses food coloring – which I don’t use very often in food. But, it is food safe therefore the perfect medium for ‘painting’ our bamboo plates. You can find bamboo plates at your local party store, but I suggest shopping somewhere like Garnish.
Plate DIY – Bamboo and Food Color painting
Supplies:
Bamboo plates
Select Food Color ( I like the gel, because it seems to more vibrant )
Clean sponge paint brush
ramekin for mixing
Step 1 : add 1/4 tsp or so of food color gel to remiken.
Step 2: Add equal amount of water and mix together
Step 3: Place disposable napkin in center of bamboo plate. This just keeps the plate clean and your fingers off of it while you’re working. Just a little courtesy for your guests who will eventually be eating off of these little plates.
Step 4: Paint the rim
